Whether you celebrate the start of the year on January 1st, or you follow the Zodiacal calendar and start it March 22nd (the Vernal Equinox) a great way to celebrate is by creating a word of the year to capture the energy you wish to embody over the next 12 months. Just having a word is wonderful, but adding sigil work to it is even more potent. Below I'm going to tell you how you can do both, and incorporate it into a spell for the New Year. All you need is a pen and paper.
Word Play
Start by making a list of words that capture what you want in the new year. The emphasis should be on how these words make you feel. Some of my personal favorites are abundance, ecstasy, pleasure, luxury, laughter, play, and sensuality. You can add anything to your list, but aim for what you want your year to feel like. Once you have your rough draft, you'll probably start to see a theme. This makes it easier to narrow down. Choose your top five and from there you can choose the reigning word of the year. This practice is very intuitive and there's no wrong answer. You'll know in your heart when you have your word.
Making Magic
Now that you have your word it's time to create a sigil for it. If you've never done this before don't worry; it's a pretty straightforward process. As an example we'll use the word ABUNDANCE. Note that I put it in all caps- When you do sigil work you're going to be using all upper case letters. (You can also create sigils with a whole phrase such as "I AM ABUNDANT." This is helpful in any sort of manifestation work and you would use the same process below to make your intention sigil.
Make sure you have a scrap page handy, as well as a special piece of paper to cast your final draft on. I also like to use a pen specifically for spell work, but you don't need to get caught up in the fluff to make this work. Your emotions and your will are what makes the spell potent- the objects and rituals just help you tap into that inherent power.
Create a quiet space for yourself where you can do this work uninterrupted. Cast a circle however you'd like to. You can light candles, burn incense, anoint yourself with oils. If you can invoke the essence of your word in your surroundings this will make your sigil that much more potent. Again, you want to feel into your word.
On your scrap page you are going to write your word out in it's entirety.
Once you do that, cross out all of the vowels. If we do that to the word ABUNDANCE we are left with BNDNC.
Next you'll get rid of any repeating letters. Now we are left with BNDC.
Now time for the fun part! With your final letters you can create your sigil by mashing them together in a design of your choice. You'll be taking the shape of these letters and using them to make a symbol that will ultimately be your sigil. Play around on your scrap page as needed. You can keep your design simple or add flourish to it as you'd like to, just make sure you include all of those remaining letters.
Copy your final design onto your special paper while visualizing your desires and feeling into your word of the year. It's nice to cast a circle and set the stage for your work as you would with any ritual. You can burn incense, light candles, incorporate crystals- whatever empowers you most as you cast your sigil. Once this feels complete you can close out your ritual and go about your day. Hang your sigil somewhere you'll be reminded of it often throughout the year. You can also make multiples if you wish and place them around several locations you frequent- you can even put one in your yearly planner! At the end of the year you can burn your sigil, or hang onto it as a permanent keepsake of the time that has passed.
Below I've included a pictorial of how to create your 2025 Word of the Year sigil:

Remember that you can customize the color, size, and design of your sigil any way that you want to. Since it's going to be something you keep in sight for a whole year it's important it's something that inspires you and feels good to look at. Play around with your design in your rough draft phase and don't be afraid to get creative. Happy manifesting and here's to another magical new year!
